I wanted the putter built in America from the start–when I decided to put my money where my mouth was and build the Perfect Fit Putter™, I knew I wanted it made in America.
I live and grew up in SW Michigan. We have many different types of businesses that design and make parts for the auto industry and I knew I could find local team members to build the putter.
Everyone told me to make it in China–when I was trying to decide whether to go it alone on the putter or whether to partner with someone, the first person that came to mind was Bob Koch, the inventor of the Medicus. Bob liked the idea of the putter enough to start initial negotiations as to how we might work together. One thing Bob was adamant about was that the putter had to be made in China. He said it would be much cheaper to make it in China. As it turns out, Bob and I couldn’t quite come to a meeting of the minds on how we would work together on the putter so I went on my merry way (which meant I didn’t have to give up control and the putter didn’t have to be made in China).
I consulted others in the industry about how best to go about mass producing the putter and everyone person I talked with told me to make the putter in China.
For the love of the game and country–understand that I make a living outside the golf business. I’ve done well enough over the years to have enough money to attempt to roll out a putter in the golf industry. It’s not cheap to prototype for two years and then ramp up for mass production of a putter.
I brought the Perfect Fit Putter™ to the market because I love golf and think golfer will embrace the putter and can use it to improve their putting.
I love the United States of America and I was not going to make the putter anywhere but here.
It literally cost me twice as much to manufacture the head and parts to the putter that allow it to adjust. I don’t care. I want to support my local community and in turn the American worker and that’s just what I’ve done.
I don’t believe any competing putter manufacturer can say the same thing.
If you need any extra excuse to by the Perfect Fit Putter™ and if the fact that it’s a made in America product pushes you over the edge to buy it, I’m o.k. with that and so will the local businesses that help manufacture, paint, and assemble the putter.
Full Disclosure
While I wish I could claim that 100% of the putter is made in America, that is not the case.
I looked high and low for a shaft company and a grip company that made their products in America. I couldn’t find one. I don’t have the technology, funds, or interest in making my own shafts or grips. Therefore, I had no option but to buy products that are not made in America. I’ll keep looking, but for now, know that the head and the inner workings of the head that allow the putter to adjust are made in America and will continue to be made here for so long as I have ownership of the putter.
